Basic Red Sauce 1/4 lb Ground beef; (1/4 to 1/2)
1/2 md Onion; chopped
4 Cloves garlic; minced
1 cn Tomato paste
1 cn Chopped tomatoes; -or- 1 c Fresh tomatoes; diced
1 4 oz. can tomato sauce
1/2 c Red wine; or white wine
1/2 c Water
1 tb Dried oregano; * see note
1 tb Dried rosemary; * see note
1 tb Dried basil; * see note
Coarsely ground pepper; to taste
* or 2 Tbsp. of fresh herb, chopped
Brown ground beef with onions and 2 of the garlic cloves and drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for at least 1 hour. You can add more spices or fresh garlic as you go to suit your taste.
